Lirik penutupnya menyebut bahwa mencintai seseorang hanyalah “loving someone is nothing more than a series of small decisions”, dan pengakuan sesunyi itu terasa lebih berat daripada pidato panjang.
A Series of Small Decisions.
Lirik Lagu Instant Empire – A Series of Small Decisions
Came to visit you after you’d fallen ill Lost in the maze of intersecting hallways Nurses in scrubs and vials of blood Fluorescent shadows and flowers that never bud To build you back up they had to strip you down to the studs Oh, to build you back up I watched them tear you down to the studs I dozed off by your bed, dreamed we were at the lake Funny how a ripple so quickly becomes the wake And the sunlight shining off the water was blinding Whatever we were seeking was hiding To build you back up they had to strip you down to the studs Oh, to build you back up I watched them tear you down to the studs I awoke to you whimpering and silently swore I awoke to you whimpering and silently swore Hold the good times close so I might have you remain mostly in light Hold the good times close so I might have you remain mostly in light I keep thinking things will change Holding onto hope even as the rope tightens and frays And your mother comes by each day And she’s got her faith and her religion, but she never really listens It must be nice to believe that heaven is a given And when visitation ends and the sun sets In the dull light of the muted television set I trace my finger from incision to incision And realize loving someone is nothing more Than a series of small decisions
