Azura – To the Bone

To the Bone dibuka dengan dua kata yang jarang mampir ke lagu rock, naivety dan duplicity. Kepolosan sendiri, kelicikan si dia, dan dari situ semuanya meluncur.

Vokal Azura masuk di antara ketukan dan lapisan tipis di belakangnya. Begitu reff tiba, drum dan bas menambah bobot, vokal latar ikut menumpuk, dan suaranya naik setingkat demi setingkat sampai ruangannya terasa sesak. Ada racikan soul dan rock yang tidak saling sikut di sini.

Penyanyi asal Jerman ini baru terjun ke musik selepas magister fisika, dan baru sadar tidak perlu memilih antara soul dan rock ketika mendengar One milik Mary J. Blige dan U2. Single debut ini jawabannya.

“Even in your warm embrace, / my heart freezes cold”, nyanyinya di reff. Dingin sekali, dan justru itu yang membuat bulu kuduk bergetar.

Frasa “all the way” diulang empat kali di setiap reff, lalu dipanggil lagi di bridge. Menjelang akhir kita mulai ikut menghitung, dan hitungannya agak kebanyakan. Saya curiga tetap akan ikut menyanyikannya.

Naif di baris pertama To the Bone, kebal di bridge-nya. Ia tidak menyisakan apa-apa lagi untuk diberikan.
